Hi, Beth I understand your explanation about adding extra length at the center back of the skirt, but have the opposite issue. I always have excess fabric between waist and bum. Would you use this same process at the waist to remove excess fabric, or are there other considerations that need to be included? Thanks

Hi Teckla! It might take a little bit of trial and error to find the best alteration. I'd take a look at how the tiers are hanging to try to diagnose where to make an adjustment. If the tiers hang parallel to the floor and there's still pooling at the center back, then I'd try removing some fabric. With your muslin, you can pin out a horizontal dart at the back waist, below the waistband. Just be careful that you don't raise up the back hem.

It could also be a case of needing more ease in the hips. If it's too tight in the hips, then a skirt can ride up at the low back.

All that said, this style, with the elastic waist, is by nature going to have excess fabric at the waist. With a fitted garment, you can add darts. In this design, the fit is intended to be loose so darts might not work. You might find this article about swayback adjustments interesting:

I hope that helps!
